THEME

Within our overall theme, "Leadership in Museums: Are our Core Values Shifting?" there will be three principal sessions, addressing aspects of this topic; -

1.Defining Museum Core Values in the 21st Century: Leadership in Action
2.Competing Values: who decides, the role of governance
3.Scholarship and Populism: can they co-exist?

Additionally, we will hold a session on new developments in the profession, a traditionally popular session at INTERCOM Conferences.

OUTLINE PROGRAMME- confirmed events

Wednesday, October 16, 2002: Opening reception at the National Museum of Ireland

Thursday, October 17, 2002. Conference sessions, 0930-1700. Evening reception at the Chester Beatty Library (Winner of the 2002 European Museum of the Year)

Friday, October 18, 2002. Conference sessions, 0930-1700. Evening reception and tour at Kilmainham Gaol Museum, Dublin

Saturday, October 19, 2002, Bus tour to Glendalough and Powerscourt House, County Wicklow, for international participants. Farewell event and tour at Dublin City Hall

CALL FOR PAPERS – Your perspective

We are calling for short papers from you which address the overall topic and the sub-themes. The maximum duration for each paper is 15 minutes. Please submit a one-page abstract to Aidan Walsh whose address and contact details can be found below. The deadline for receipt of these proposals is 6 September 2002.

Conference BOOKING and ACCOMODATION

Conference booking. International delegates Euro 150. Ireland delegates Euro 75. You must return your fee and form (already sent to you) to Lesley Simpson, Down County Museum, DOWNPATRICK, Northern Ireland, by September 16. Cheque or bank draft must be enclosed.

Hotels. Conference rate available until September 19. Please mention "INTERCOM Conference"
