Description : | Black and white postcard of the Peace River Railroad / Million Dollar Bridge. This photograph could have been taken anytime between 1918 when the bridge was finished and 1965 when the new bridge was built. |
Commentaires : | The N.A.R. Bridge was announced in 1914 and was to accommodate trains as well as foot, horse and car traffic. The bridge was built between 1917 and 1918 at a cost of $1,500,000. It is nicknamed as the Million Dollar Bridge (Peace River Remembers, p. 405). This donation of postcards and photographs was donated by Ernie Skip, who acquired them from a Mrs. MacRae, thought to be Pearl MacRae. Pearl Hazzard married Wilson MacRae and they had an adopted daughter, Greta MacRae, now Greta Picard (2010). Wilson was the post master in Peace River. It is thought to be Pearl MacRae because she lived only a few doors down from Mr. Skip, one of the postcards has the name Pearl on it, and the dates of the photographs coincide with the times that Wilson and Pearl would have been in Peace River. |
