Description : Sepia toned photograph of a group of people at Early's Market Garden. In the background, to the left, can be seen a house.
Commentaires : Joseph Benjamin Early was born on April 2, 1867 in Ohio. He married Polly Yoder (born September 1867) on January 28, 1891. He taught for a few years until he retired in 1896. He and Polly, son Joseph Quinter, daughter Vera Meyers and grandchildren, Bob and Betty came to Peace River in 1916. They moved onto a homestead at "Paul's Corner" south of Berwyn in 1918. In 1922 he purchased the J.E. (or W.H.) Carson homestead from Mrs. L.A. Chenoweth to establish a fruit, vegetable and dairy farm. He also grew many flowers, especially his 175 varieties of gladioli. Mrs. Early died on cancer in 1950 when she was 83. Mr. Early died in 1954 at the age of 87 (Peace River Remembers, p. 228-229). This donation of postcards and photographs was donated by Ernie Skip, who acquired them from a Mrs. MacRae, thought to be Pearl MacRae. Pearl Hazzard married Wilson MacRae and they had an adopted daughter, Greta MacRae, now Greta Picard (2010). Wilson was the post master in Peace River. It is thought to be Pearl MacRae because she lived only a few doors down from Mr. Skip, one of the postcards has the name Pearl on it, and the dates of the photographs coincide with the times that Wilson and Pearl would have been in Peace River.
