Description : | David Patterson Muir, enlisted in Calgary, on December 15, 1915, in the Third Divisional Ammunitions Column, listing his occupation as 'Saddler and Harnessmaker". He was 40 years old. He received the rank of Master Saddler, Sergeant Major. Going overseas in 1915 he served in France until the cessation of hostilities in 1918 and was discharged in May 1919. When he returned to Canada and came to Red Deer where he was employed as a harness maker with the firm of Jarvis-Goodey until 1922 when he became a police constable for the City of Red Deer. In 1927 he joined the Alberta Provincial Police and was a member of the force until it was taken over by the RCMP in 1932. He became a special constable during the Second World War at Seba Beach. He retired in 1946. D.P. Muir died in 1947 as the result of having been gassed during the battle of Vimy Ridge and is buried in the Soldier's Plot in the Red Deer Cemetery. |
