| Commentaires : | Caulking was a practice first used on wooden ships. The process of caulking on wooden ships consisted of forcing fibrous materials, such as cotton, soaked in pine tar. Caulking was used to seal cracks in the timbers during construction of the ship. After the fibrous material was secure, it was sealed in with pitch in a process known as 'pitch paying'. This scraper would have been used to remove the excess pitch. |
