Description : | This is a black and white photograph of buildings in Port au Bras that were lifted from their foundations by the tidal wave. The photo was taken of the community as it encircles the harbor. In the photo, boats were lifted from their moorings and carried inland by the force of the waves. There is visible damage to the exterior of several homes in the photograph, those on higher ground appear intact. The ground in the picture is snow covered. |
Commentaires : | This photograph shows that community of Port au Bas which was badly affected by the tidal waves. On November 18, 1929 a series of tidal waves hit the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland. The area was devastated - provisions, gear, buildings and supplies were lost. Most devastating was the loss of 7 lives from the tidal waves. |
