Description : | This is a black and white photograph of a schooner under full sail. In the photograph there are people visible on deck as well as cloths drying in the rigging of the vessel. |
Commentaires : | The photograph is of the schooner "Joyce M Smith." The photograph was taken by a crew member of a passing schooner. On August 24, 1927 a fierce August gale hit the area. This photograph was taken just before the storm hit. Note the dory sails and men's cloths drying in the rigging of the schooner. The schooner Joyce M Smith was lost during the August Gale with all of the crew on board. The community of Salt Pond lost 4 people who were crew members of the Joyce M. Smith. |
