Description : | A brown bitstock that is shaped like the letter "C" with an extension on the end. This cutting tool is an early type reamer and held in position with a hard wood wedge that has the button and mounting plate missing. The handle of the bitstock is called an "elbow" and is made from maple wood. The "100 marks" indicates that it was made by a local tradesman or the owner. It was used by carpenters in the early 1830's. The bitstock fastened various parts of furniture and joined them together. |
