Description : | The artifact is a brown moulding plane. The plane has a blade in the center that is held in place with a wedge. It was used by Carpenters and Coopers for moulding and grooving wood. The initials R.M.P. are engraved on the plane. |
Commentaires : | The plane is an improvement on the drawing knife. It is pushed away from the body rather than pulled toward it and far superior in workmanship. Planes were made of hard wood, walnut, oak, maple, cherry, apple, and others. Generally, planes can be separated into four basic types according to the function: beading, beveling, molding or smoothing. |
