| Description : | A child's toy rifle with wooden stock and metal barrel. The stock has a shiny, dark brown mahogany finish. |
| Commentaires : | The artifact was found under the hay in a barn located on St Mary's St. The property was formerly owned by a Fraser family then by Claude Gallant. Until World War I, most cap guns were made of cast iron. After the war, a trend developed toward using cast metal as it was a less expensive material. These die cast guns were made for two decades, during which time the TV western was born. When the space race began, westerns became less popular and were phased out. Guns were no longer seen as appropriate toys for children. Guns were meant to see lots of action and therefore may appear worn. |
