| Description : | Rectangular; outdoor view of a brickyard featuring workers laying out brick |
| Commentaires : | The Salt Springs Brick Factory was owned and operated by Duncan Chisholm. Generally six men would be hired each summer to operate three kilns. The bricks were hand moulded in wooden box forms and the clay used was located across the intervale from the family farmhouse. In 1895 each brick was sold for one cent. Most were sold locally. Some of the older buildings on the St F X campus were built from bricks from this operation. The Chisholm family boarded the men who worked at the factory providing them meals and laundry service. The older man pictured in the foreground of the photo is Cameron Chisholm. |
