Description : | Oblong ribbon with pleated circular topper; decorative gold tassels and stamped design on either side of the ribbon |
Commentaires : | This ribbon was the property of Alexander James Chisholm (24 Feb 1879-10 May 1967) of Saltsprings, Antigonish County. In his younger days, he followed the gold mining tradition and went to Colorado (c. 1897) along with many other Antigonishers. The ribbon represents the Western Federation of Miners (WFM) and Chisholm's membership in that group. It was considered a militant organization and was a forerunner of the Industrial Worker's of the World. Alexander Chisholm returned to Nova Scotia; was married to Elizabeth MacDonald Crocket in 1906 and had four daughters--Harriet, Jessie, Bertha, and Isabel. |
