| Description : | World War I Belgian top break pistol |
| Commentaires : | This Belgian weapon originally came to Canada at the end of the First World War. It was brought back by Pte. John Edward Shunamon, RCR. He fought in the battles of Verdun, The Somme, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Ypres. In Ypres, where poison gas was first used against troops, he was proud that the Canadians stood and fought and held the position when others ran. He also took part in the pursuit to Mons, Belgium and had the Mons Medal presented by the Belgian government. He removed this weapon from a German soldier and brought it home as a souvenir. This weapon was given to The Army Museum by Mr. Shunamon's grand daughter and her husband. |
