Description : | A cap badge comprised of a pair of crossed Vickers machine guns with a crown above and "CANADA" in a scrolled banner below and pronged fastener on back. |
Commentaires : | The Canadian Machine Gun Corps was organized in France in April 1917 and was composed of Machine Gun Squadron, Canadian Cavalry Brigade, machine gun companies, the 1st Motor Machine Gun Brigade, and motor machine gun batteries. |
Fonctions : | Cap badges were first worn by the Canadian Expeditionary Force when the Canadian government sent troops overseas in 1914. The Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) first used a general list cap badge which was used to tell Canadian soldiers apart from British soldiers. As diverse groups of volunteers signed up for the war effort, cap badges became a way for regiments to incorporate their cultures and identities in unique ways. This military cap badge was created for the Canadian Machine Gun Corps under the CEF during World War I. This is a 31-4 Canadian Machine Gun Corps Cap Badge, possibly made for the 4th Battalion of the Corps. |
