| History of Use: | Within months of Canada's entry into the Second World War, dozens of unofficial womens corps had mobilized across the country. These women joined such groups as the Womens Volunteer Reserve Corps, which operated in Québec, Ontario and the Maritimes, or the Canadian Auxiliary Territorial Service, which operated in Ontario and the western provinces. On their own time and at their own expense, these volunteers enrolled in military-related courses like Morse code signalling and map reading as well as some arms drills. Due to the fact that these were volunteer and unofficial corps, many 'uniforms' were modeled or used bits of other already fashioned Canadian Army, Navy, Air Force uniforms. |
