Commentaires : [ From A.I.F. Folder ]Saint James Church - Spry Bay, N.S. According to the Parish Register, which starts December 5, 1882, St. James Church was probably consecrated in 1880 but was erected earlier than this. This was three years before Tangier was set aside as a parish which was January 24, 1883.The Original Parish. Before December 5, 1882, the records were kept by the Rector of Ship Harbour, the Rev. Robert Jamieson, who was rector there from 1840 to 1884. On January 24, 1883, Tangier was set apart as a parish and the Rev. Edward H. Ball was appointed the first Rector. The First Church.  The first church in the Parish was at Church hill, Popes Harbour. This church was named All Saints. Holy Trinity Church was consecrated in 1868. St. James was the third church to be built in this parish.  The Leslie family gave the land and the men of the place hewed the logs from which the church was constructed and brought them to the site. Henry G. Leslie was a great singer in his time and before the church was built a singing school was established in the school house, by J. Bayer, who instructed the youth in the art of singing. Alexander Leslie, son of Henry G., was one of the promoters for the construction of the church along with his brother Thomas David Leslie, who conducted a lobster packing business at Spry Bay. St. James Church, Spry Bay, was built in 1874, according to local family history records.
