Commentaires : From A.I.F. Folder  A. Catherine Sterns Weldon b. July 16, 1896 d. April 1974 Daughter of George Albert and Annie May (Wilson) Sterns. Married Arthur Hare Weldon in September, 1920. Lived most of her life in Dartmouth except for a short period on a farm in Linacy, Pictou County following her marriage. Three children, Catherine Sterns Weldon (Mrs. J.L. Harrison) George Arthur Weldon, and Richard Laurence Weldon. Began painting in oils in 1955, taking classes from John Cook, and turned out some 209 works from then until her death in 1974. One painting entitled "May Morning", depicting the pool in her back yard, won first prize in 1958 at an Art Exhibit at the Citadel in Halifax, N.S. Mrs. Weldon's paintings are scattered across Canada because she gave them as gifts for weddings, birthdays, etc. to friends and family. Several were lost when the Weldon home was gutted by fire. This painting was done from a photo of Birch Cove, Lake Banook, by W.H. Stevens - when there really were birch trees there. It was given to Mollie and Eric Forbes - Mollie nee. Wilson was a first cousin of A. Catherine Wheldon. When the Forbes' moved from their house to an apartment they gave the painting to me (Catherine S. Harrison, donor). W.R. Symons remarked recently that it was a shame the Dartmouth Heritage Museum collection did not contain one of my Mother's paintings, so I thought this scene of Birch Cove in the olden days might fill the bill.
