Description : Pair of wooden soled slates. The wood sole is narrow, made of dark wood and possibly varnished. Brass pin near the front of the soles, directly over front strap holes. There areas were carved out to be for straps. The blade is short and curves at the front. a- right, b- left. a) Has one leather strap while b) has a very long leather strap, possibly not original.
Commentaires : Believed to have been worn by Patrick Brennan around 1850, and then by his son Daniel Patrick Brennan, who was a Dartmouth Policeman.
Fonctions : Believed to have been worn by Patrick Brennan around 1850 and then by Daniel Brennan, his son, Dartmouth's first policeman. May have also been used by Maxwell Brennan, later Doctor Max, founder of the Dartmouth Medical Centre. Max played hockey for Dalhousie and then for Edinborough University. He also played on the Scottish National team in the 1930s. Max's sons Dan and Grant played hockey in the early days of organized hockey in Dartmouth, in the 50s and 60s. Grant later became a City of Dartmouth Alderman and Deptuty Mayor. Grant's sons, Sean and Dylan, both played in the Dartmouth Whalers Association in the 80s and 90s. Grant served as Vice President of the Association for several years. Grant's daughters, Meghan and Bridget, played in the Dartmouth Ringette Association for many years and Meghan played hockey for Dartmouth High School.
