| Commentaires : | Originally part of an art collection owned by Marjorie H. Lavers, an art dealer and art restorer who worked out of Halifax from 1928 to 1992. When she passed away, the donor received the majority of her collection.; Marjorie Helen Lavers (1903-1992) was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to Walter G. Lavers and Louise (Bayers) Lavers. She was one of seven children, two dying in infancy. She worked at Holland & Kuhn, an art supply store and art dealers store and eventually took over the business in 1928. She worked there as the manager and an art dealer, and sold the business in 1949. She eventually left the business and continued being an art dealer at Priest & Sons, and later Hughes Owens, retiring in 1968. Afterwards she worked as the manager of the art supply store for the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD), where she was appointed a Fellow in 1973, in recognition for her service to art, art design students, and artists and designers within Halifax. She would later retire from NSCAD in 1979. She was also an honorary member of the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society, being their first archivist, and helped to do art and frame restorations for various art pieces. She passed away in 1992. |
