| Commentaires : | From the basement of the Anthony Flower House, MacDonalds Corner, New Brunswick. The Flower House was built in 1818, expanded in the 1830s and 1850s as the family grew, but was the home of the Flower family throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. Often associated with Port Neuf, Quebec and nicknamed Portneuf Pottery, this design is actually spongeware that originated in Scotland. The decoration was literally applied with a natural sponge by hand. This sherd is from the cellar of the Anthony Flower House, Lower Cambridge, and likely dates to about 1850. It is part of a teacup or tea bowl and likely part of a larger set used by the Flower Family. Imagine how pretty this would have been on the large kitchen table at the Flower House or lined up in the pantry? |
