| Commentaires : | This work by Anthony Flower is part of a handmade book of paintings. Flower is well known for using images from the illustrated periodicals of the mid 19th century. This painting was inspired by Exterior of the Church at Drayton Bassett, Illustrated London News, July 15, 1850, page 45, in relation to scenes of the funeral of Sir Robert Peel, British Prime Minister. Flower altered the scene, removing the crowds of people and tombstones that appear in the periodical image, for a cheerier scene of a quiet country church with a picket fence. |
