| Commentaires : | This work by Anthony Flower is part of a handmade book of paintings. Flower is well known for using images from the illustrated periodicals of the mid 19th century. This painting is from an image that was part of a story, Scene from Wallace's New Opera of "Matilda of Hungary", at Drury Lane Theatre, The Illustrated London News, March 6, 1847, page 157. Flower altered the scene slightly but his attention to detail in this work is extraordinary. The owrk also demonstrates his wide-ranging interests in theatre and culture in England. |
