| Commentaires : | Photograph found in the Anthony Flower House, MacDonalds Corner, New Brunswick at the time of acquisition by Queens County Heritage in 2002-2003. Possibly Mary Matilda Clark Flower (1828-1913), wife of James Flower (1829-1918), Anthony Flower's son. The photograph bears a strong resemblance to an 1864 watercolour portrait by Anthony Flower of his daughter-in-law. The Flower family would have traveled to either Saint John or Fredericton via steamboat for photographic portraits which were becoming increasingly popular in the 1850s and 1860s. While a tintype, the trend for small carte-de-visite style photographs is clear in this small image and elaborate embossed oval decoration. |
