| Commentaires : | An 1860 painting by Anthony Flower (1792-1875), MacDonalds Corner, New Brunswick inspired by an image from the Illustrated Times, 22 September 1860, page 9, Gleaning, from a drawing by Alfred Slader. Anthony Flower was well known to copy images from periodicals, prints and books throughout his artistic career. The Illustrated Times was one of several illustrated magazines from which he drew inspiration. He seems particularly drawn to images that may represent his farming youth in England, or his rural lifestyle in New Brunswick, as demonstrated here with a rural scene with fields, streams and luscious forests.
