| Commentaires : | Found in the Thomas Hewlett Scovil House, Front Street, Gagetown in 2021. Likely in the Scovil family for several generations. Account Book of Nathaniel Hubbard Deveber (1785-1877), Gagetown, containing the account notes and receipts of various Gagetown and area people. Nathaniel Hubbard Deveber, son of Gabriel Deveber and MArgaret Hubbard, married Mary Elizabeth White (1779-1844) of Gagetown on 1 May 1819 at Saint John. Nathaniel and Mary resided at Gagetown where he served as the High Sheriff of Queens County. Nathaniel and Mary had only two children: Gabriel born 1820; and James White born 1821. Mary died 14 February 1844 and was buried at St. Johns Anglican Cemetery, Gagetown. On 18 September 1847 her son Gabriel married his first cousin, Benjamina Margaret Gabriella Deveber, the daughter of cousins Leverett Hubbard Deveber and Margaret Ann Hubbard (1793-1866). Prominent in Gagetown and Queens County, the Deveber family lived in Claremont, a gothic revival house built in the early 1850s by Nathaniel Deveber for his son, Gabriel and niece, Benjamina. The account book shows various financial transactions from the late 1820s including signatures of Loyalist Daniel Babbit, and references to Thomas Tilley, the father of Sir Samuel Leonard Tilley. |
