Brown cardboard that has lost its finish. the two outer corners of the front cover are covered in brown leather. Covering over the spine is no longer present. Fabric is visible holding the pages together. The original is located with the transcribed version.ÿ

This book belonged to J.E. Chipman & Co. of Middleton. It contains all of the correspondence he had with other businesses throughout the region as he gathered supplies for his store. It begins in 1861 and is listed at J.E. Chipman & Co. in 1869 it begins being listed as J.E. Chipman & Co. per Albert Beals and then in 1870 it begins to be listed as Albert Beals & Co. All letters related to to cash transactions between the company and other businesses and individuals throughout Western Nova Scotia, primarily in the Annapolis Valley
