Description : A shallow bowl. On the bowl is a picture of a lake with several buildings on the land in the background. The buildings have tall, pointed roofs. There are clouds in the sky and a trees branches provide a frame in the foreground.
Commentaires : This dish was decorated using a transfer-printing technique developed in the mid-eighteenth century. The technique allows for quicker decoration of ceramics. A design is inked on a copper plate after which it is transferred to the ceramic via either a sheet of paper or a sheet of tacky glue. If the glue is used, the colour is set on the ceramic using oil and metallic oxides. Regardless of the method used, firing fixes the design to the ceramic. Crosshatching from the copper engraving plate is usually evident on the ceramic as are misalignments if the design pattern did not fit properly. The majority of transfer-printing patterns are in blue.
