Commentaires : | This model of the Danish Seine Winch was designed and built in 1957 by L. Clive Boehner, Rafn Josefsson, Bert O'Hara, Olafur Egilsson and George Baird at the Fisheries Training Centre in Pictou, Nova Scotia. George Baird notes that it was the creation of this prototype that made Danish seining an important part of Nova Scotia's fisheries. Danish seining is a variation of regular seine fishing, in which a net is hung vertically off the side of the boat with floats at the top and weights at the bottom to sink it. Danish seining, also known as fly dragging, consists of a pear-shaped net that is dragged along the sea floor. The net closes as it is lifted by the winch and the boat moves forward, creating the pear-shape. |
