Commentaires : | Measurement gauges are used by lobster and crab fishermen to ensure that their catch meets the legal size limit. After the crab pots have been emptied, the catch is sorted and measured, at which time any undersized crab are returned to the ocean. This gauge was manufactured at the Lunenburg Foundry & Engineering Limited. The foundry, established in 1891, began by making nautical and parlour stoves as well as cast-iron cooking ranges. It has survived fire and financial difficulties, and in 2005 renovated its facilities to meet the needs of its booming yacht repair business. This portion of the company servies clients from Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States. The Foundry is also responsible for caring for the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic's vessel the Theresa E Connor and carrying out the annual inspection on the Bluenose II. The Foundry has also branched off in the direcito of a company gift shop, supplying ship's bells, custom plaques, books and clothing. |
