Dear Sir:- I am in receipt of yours of the 1st., inst. and regret delay in answering same. I also regret that it was impossible for me to give you a List of the Recruits in Inverness County. I took over the work of Recruiting Officer on September 4th last, and the number of Recruits reported for Inverness County from September 4th to April 1st., is two hundred and twenty. This Office is not furnished with a List of the Recruits. Recruiting Officers send in the number of Recruits obtained each week and my figures are based on those Reports. Lieut. C. E. McMillan, Recruiting Officer for Inverness County who was appointed August 5th, 1915, would have the names of all the men enlisted by him on his Service Roll. So also Mr. A.G. McDonald, appointed January 18th, 1915, would have a number of names on his Service Roll. I would therefore suggest that you communicate with these men. Of course the number of enlisted by these two men, does not represent total number of men enlisted in Inverness County, A number of -2- Inverness men would doubtless enlist at Sydney and o other points; also the Nova Scotia Highlanders, during their recent campaign have, no doubt, obtained the number of men which do not appear on the Service Rolls of Lieut. McMillan and Mr. McDonald. The information available at Headquarters here on this Subject is difficult to get at because the Enrolment Forms are not classified according to Counties; therefore, in order to get this information at the Headquarters, Halifax, it would be necessary to look through the Enrolment Forms of all men enlisted in the Maritime Provinces since the War began.
