| Description: | ~ J.J.B.~ 10 April 1916 Dear Father [?], Your most welcome and interesting letter to land [?] a few days ago and I was very glad to hear from you as it is the first letter I have received and we are here nearly one month. Mail comes in bunches in this Country mostly on account of the sailing of the transports for they got to be very cautious about some. We are having lovely weather of late although when we first arrived it was very disagreeable in every way and we were just plastered with mud. We are still at Bramshott Camp but may be moved any day to one of Englands best Artillery Camp & we have three other batteries with us which make the 11th Brigade also a Ammunition illegible Our Lieut. Col McNaughton who is in command is direct from the front having charge of a battery on the illegible line. He is a graduate of McGill. Over a week ago we were inspected illegible illegible Hughes along with the rest of the Canadians. We expect to get over to France in a month but it means hard training. We get up every morning at 5:30 am and go to stables & look after our horses and every driver has two horses to watch. This place is nothing but soldiers of all kinds and where ever you go in England they are full of soldiers. The 64th Battalion from Halifax got here today with more to follow. We are not allowed to give out much information regarding military affairs which is a good thing for the Germans soon get wise. This Country is very pretty & historic but the war has made quite a change in the people. See fellows from the front nearly every day who go to London on leave for a few days rest. See where Lt Col Day is doing well in recruiting his Highland Brigade also Lt Col Borden. Two of the best men Nova Scotia could produce for a brigade of that kind. They are both Mt A men & were classmates at school. Gladys [?] other brother has threw [?] up his position at Steel Works & joined the 185th while her other brother is in the trenches in France. Saw Capt & Dr [?] Harvey [?] McDonald at his office and he has a bad cold of late but guess he will soon get over some. He may go up with his brother this Summer Dc Howard. Saw Dr Don McLeod not long ago. He came down from illegible to see the boys. He looks well & quite fat. The French are doing fine at Verdun & moving the Germans down and cannot see how they will stand the strain very long. The main thing is to get men & as many as possible training them thoroughly & show the enemy we mean business. We are up against a big problem so every man with any manhood [?] about him at all or who realizes the freedom about him should be in the fight. Am glad to see what Cape Breton has done. It will all be remembered for years to come. My roommate J. L. Clark at Mt. A is now in Belgium with the Victoria Rifles of Montreal. Several of the boys have been to London for a week but I am going up some end week for a couple of days & see the city. Very sad about Hon. James McDonald. Understand the Local Elections will be held in June. Is that true? In our brigade and in the 35th battery of Montreal we have the editor of the Montreal Herald on illegible See by the Journal where two of the Langley boys & Campbell have joined the illegible Hughie & Ernest are well. Sorry to think that the store is not doing much for one has got to get the business to make it go. By working off the stock & seeing a chance to sell all perhaps would be the best & then you could rent the store to somebody & would always have a few dollars coming in every month.
