Cot 8 Red Maid's Section, 2nd Southam General Hospital, Bristol Eng Dear Father, Just a few lines to-day [sic] so you will know where I am and what is doing. Have been illegible several days now and & allowed to go out on a pass from 12:30 p.mbto 6 p.m. At 8 p.m. we all got to be in bed and up ay 6.a.m when we have breakfast. Am feeling a lot better than I was and beginning to pick up in flesh for I was thin as a illegible when I landed here first fat with good clean food am going along fine Yet I am not really over some. Hope all are well at home also Mother for I wrote her a few days ago & hope will receive same. Have not had a letter going on three months but suppose I will ere [sic] long. I am being transferred to a Canadian Convalescent Hospital to-morrow [sic] at Oxbridge on the Thames 8 miles from London so that will be my sixth hospital I have passed through. No doubt all the mail that comes to me here will be forwarded ahead and I will forward my address from next place. Bristol is a fine City being very clean and having buildings of fine architecture. On Saturday afternoon I took the tram car from here for the centre of the City & it is only a penny we pay for soldiers and the cars are nice you can ride on top of some and get lots of fresh air & see the sights. Went down to Ex-Soldiers & sailors Club & had a cup of tea & some cakes with an Australian lad then came back and took another car & went up towards the docks and saw all the ships and some on the stocks also go Aeroplane [sic] & Hydro [sic] - plane factory. From there went to the Clifton [?] Suspension Bridge which has quite a history and was built from the old London bridge and is quite a sight afterwards took an Incline Railway to the top of some where I had a grand view. Came back by Omnibus to Centre then went through the Museum & Art Gallery had supper at the Y.M.C.A dug-out for Soldiers then came home on Westbury [?] car. On Sunday went out on the downs & sat down on a bench & watched the people yet I could not walk far. On Monday went to Bristol & saw the different boats in the illegible. Tuesday the patients & all the wounded from all the hospitals were invited to the Zoological Gardens. It was very interesting heard the band and at 4 p.m. had Supper in a large tent a cup of tea, bread, radishes & lettuce and cake then a package of Gold Flakes Cigarettes came back at 6 p.m. Yesterday did not go out but helped washing up, waiting on the wounded lads & with the dressings helped the nurses & illegible talk about wounds where the shrapnel was taken out. One fellow has 17 pieces of shrapnel in him and he is full of tubes. To-day [sic] we are invited to the Theatre at a matinee. Bristol has a population of 450,000. They had a number of munition factories, all illegible working at same. They have also started a large powder factory but work is suspended on same meaning against loss of money. Since U.S.A. came into the war, they will supply the Allies with powder so this plant has to close down. We are not loosing so many ships & seem to be illegible the U. [?] illegible problems and they have all the food rationed in England, on account of so many food ships being sunk. Germany thinks they can starve us but believe me they will have their hands full. We are gradually pushing them back on the illegible Line but with Russia holding back since the Revolution they have brought a lot of their heavy guns from the Eastern Front so they are making their last stand. Have their dug-outs nearly one hundred feet in the ground & they live in luxury. Their front line all electric lighted etc but our artillery are making them busy & we will soon have them yet they are clever [?] in many respects, See by the paper where R.L, Borden intends having conscription.- Australia turned [?] it down by a vote but guess will have some.
