| Description: | Coloured image depicting grand opening celebrations of the Canso Causeway on August 13th, 1955. The image overlooks the Strait of Canso and shows multiple boats in the water, including the HMCS Quebec, which was there to fire a celebratory salvo. The roadway of the causeway is also pictured, showing a car driving through crowds present on either side of the roadway. There are bleachers on the left-hand side of the photo. Cape Breton Island can be seen in the background of the photo, which was taken from the Aulds Cove side of the Strait. |
