| Description: | Black and white photograph showing grand opening celebrations of the Canso Causeway which occurred on August 13th, 1955. The image is taken from the roadway of the Causeway and shows a parade, consisting of two flag bearers, one holding the Union Jack flag and one holding the Nova Scotia flag. They are both wearing a Scottish uniform with a kilt, sporran, tartan socks, a shirt with a tie, and a small hat. The flag bearer holding the Union Jack has numerous medals on his jacket. In between them, there is a Navy man in uniform, holding a staff, and another man dressed in a Scottish uniform consisting of a kilt, sporran, tartan socks, a white button-up shirt, and a small hat. There is also a man on the far left who is wearing a Scottish uniform but also has a tartan cloak over his shoulder and is wearing white gloves. Behind this line of men is a large group of bagpipers. Cape Porcupine can be seen in the background. The image has a white border. |
