| Description: | A black-and-white photograph depicting the grand open celebrations of the Canso Causeway on August 13th, 1955. The image shows a parade moving along the roadway of the Canso Causeway, towards Cape Breton. A group of pipers is seen in the front of the parade wearing traditional Scottish uniforms. The group behind them is also a piping band and they are also wearing Scottish uniforms. Behind this group, there are two cards driving along the road, surrounded by people. There are large crowds gathered on either side of the road watching the parade, as well as people walking along the railroad tracks on the left side of the Causeway. there are streetlights lining the right side of the road, each with a flag on it. Auld's Cove can be seen in the background of the image. The picture has a white border. |
