| Description : | The back of the photo reads "U.S. Tanker " Merrimac" aground on Dixon Rock. One reason why Canso Strait was unpopular with the Merchant Marine. There's a story here about the grounding on "Dixon Rock" .Just below here in the Strait in 1949. There's a buoy there now, marking it. It was pulled off by the "Foundation Scarborough" which was in the Strait doing the depth soundings to see what to recommend to bridge the Strait. |
