Transcription: THE NOVA SCOTIA TRUST COMPANY 164 HOLLIS STREET HALIFAX, CANADA, August 29th,1917. J.C. Bourinot, Esq. M.P.P., Port Hawkesburry, N.S. Dear Mr. Bourinot:- We just have your letter of the 24th inst. and noticed you have visited quite a number of Towns on our behalf. We expected that you were going to give us word ahead of the places you proposed to visit in order that we would send out some prospectus in advance; we find this pays. We had some envelopes already addressed to Cape Breton names for this purpose. We are taking note of the promise of M.J.T. McNeil, River Bourgeois for Acadia Gas bonds in October, also that of D.K. Matheson and Roy Ferguson. I trust you will not lose sight of these and that orders will materialize. I am convinced that it is the follow up at a later date that is more productive than the first canvass. You will be glad to hear that we have an absolute offer for the Dorchester proposition at a price that will let us out of this with very little depreciation. The company made about $2200 last quarter. This was an unfortunate transaction, but it is an experience that would not occur again, and we are fortunate to have had the experience at so little cost. The writer visited the plant of the Amherst Pianos a few weeks ago and returned feeling thoroughly convinced that the proposition would develop to the satisfaction and profit of all the stockholders. The talking machine part of the business is becoming a success and this is the first summer since they started that they did not feel the necessity of closing down for July and August, but they continued in operation with as many employees as could be secured. Mr. Tompson has been in Upper Canada for the last few weeks and has been asisting me in disposing of the Dorchester business, and we now feel the necessity of having some further investment orders in hand to keep up our margin for dividend purposes. We are very anxious to have something booked up from you before the first of the month, and know that you are doing the best you can during adverse conditions. We would be very glad if you could get the promise of a few Wills. We have quite a satisfactory number from this end of the Province and feel the need of our record being maintained in Cape Breton and Eastern Nova Scotia, as this is really the foundation of future success.
