In this handrwitten letter, sent on August 3rd 1917, Allan D. expresses concern to J.C. Bourinot about Dan's excessive drinking, urging Bourinot to strongly reprimand him for his behavior and its negative impact on his family. Transcription: *Marked Personal in top left corner* Port Hood Aug 3rd/17 J.C Bourinot Esq M.P.P. Dear Sir:- I know you will be pleased to hear that my daughter Mary got her Grade 13. She got a Grade every year in succession that good enough, Dan is home and is up tippling with whisky for the last two weeks You should tell Dan that he has no business to taste liquor at all he neglect[?] his business and he acts the fool all through the Chapter when he drinks, and strong[?] to say it is his enemies he chooses for his chums when he tipples if he does not stop whiskey I will pitch him, as I would sooner see him dead then to see him drinking (Page 2) and also he will go to the wall[?] just its all right for a man to take a glass if he likes so long as he do not show the world that is drinking but Dan is not one of them he will show it and everybody will know when he drinks you should tell him you hear that he is drinking and that some he is one of if not the biggest fools I ever saw when he drinks he is anything but good he is proud and vulgar & ignorant & rotten[?] combined he makes life rotten[?] for his wife & family, and I depend of your sense of justice to give him a damn good calming[?] down Yours truly Allan D.
