| Description : | Pictured is what appears to be a horse judging at the 1949 school fair. Three horses can be seen. A crowd is watching. Two men are walking and looking at the horses possibly judges. Nan and Breton Langleys house and the Oceanside can be seen in the background. The photograph is glued to a white piece of paper in a binder. |
| Commentaires : | School fairs were revived in Inverness County after World War II. They were usually held in September. In Port Hood the fair was held on the grounds of the Port Hood Academy in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Schools from the area that took part were Hawthorne, Harbourview, Dunmore, Glencoe Station, Baden, Colindale, St. Peters Convent and Port Hood Island. Fairs were open not only to students but to anyone in the surrounding community who wished to enter cows, horses, sheep, handcrafts, baked items or preserves. Animals were paraded in a large ring in front of the Academy enclosed by a rope and were judged by a representative from the Department of Agriculture. |
