Description : Pictured is what appears to be a horse judging at the 1949 school fair. Four horses can be seen with in a roped enclosure.  A male is standing next to each horse. A crowd is watching. Port Hood Island is visible in the background. The photograph is glued to a white piece of paper in a binder.
Commentaires : Schools fairs were revived in Inverness County after World War II. They were usually held in September. In Port Hood the fair was held on the grounds of the Port Hood Academy in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Schools from the area that took part were Hawthorne, Harbourview, Dunmore, Glencoe Station, Baden, Colindale, St. Peters Convent and Port Hood Island. Fairs were open not only to students but to anyone in the surrounding community who wished to enter cows, horses, sheep, handcrafts, baked items or preserves. Animals were paraded in a large ring in front of the Academy enclosed by a rope and were judged by a representative from the Department of Agriculture.
