| Description: | A photo from Fr. MacPherson's Golden Jubilee celebration in 1951. Pictured is the choir singing. They are gathered round an organ and are directed by a Sister (presumably Sister Saint Patricia). A bit of the Glebe House is just visible on the left of the photo. The photo is attached to a piece of white paper. The choir for the Jubilee was under the direction of Sister Saint Patricia (Patricia Moran) who was a music teacher and a native of Port Hood. The organ used was a new one that was especially purchased for the Jubilee. It replaced a much older model that had to be pumped by hand while the organist played. |
| Narrative: | Father Donald MacPherson, parish priest in Port Hood from 1919 until 1957, celebrated his Golden Jubilee at St. Peter's Church, Port Hood on August 15, 1951. Bishop John R. MacDonald along with countless priests concelebrated the solemn high mass. The mass was held outdoors and an outdoor altar was constructed for the occasion. Hundreds of clergy and lay people attended from all over the diocese. |
