| Description : | Pictured is the Port Hood Academy. The roof has been partially cut off by the photographer. A number of men are in the foreground by the side of the Academy. Two more men can be seen walking at the right. |
| Commentaires : | Photo was likely taken at the time of the 1948 School Fair as it is in sequence with other photos that were taken at that time. Schools fairs were revived in Inverness County after World War II. They were usually held in September. In Port Hood the fair was held on the grounds of the Port Hood Academy in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Schools from the area that took part were Hawthorne, Harbourview, Dunmore, Glencoe Station, Baden, Colindale, St. Peters Convent and Port Hood Island. Fairs were open not only to students but to anyone in the surrounding community who wished to enter cows, horses, sheep, handcrafts, baked items or preserves. |
