Description: Photograph of Sheriff Robert MacDougall. He is seated on a wooden chair. His right arm is resting on an ornate table with a statue of a rearing horse. He is wearing striped pants and a striped vest with a dark coloured long jacket. This is a copy of a photo from the late 1800s. A copy of the memorial card for Sheriff MacDougalls widow, Mary Ellen Keating is with the photo. Mary Ellen died April 17, 1927.
Narrative: Robert MacDougall (circa 1831 circa 1883) was the second sheriff of Inverness County. He was born at Judique Intervale. Before succeeding Sheriff George C. Laurence, Sheriff MacDougall was involved in business. For many years he clerked for the Honourable Peter Smyth and he was also involved in a partnership with Nicholas Murphy. Sheriff MacDougall lived in the north end of Port Hood about the area across the road from John and Cathy Gillies.
