| Description: | Photograph of David Sydney Jones. He is pictured from roughly the chest up. He is wearing his naval uniform. This is a copy of an original photograph from the 1940s. |
| Narrative: | David Sydney Jones was born in Port Hood on April 25, 1914 to Margaret (Williams) and David WIlliam (D.W.) Jones. D.W. Jones (1872-1949) was born in Wales and emigrated to Canada with his family in the early 1900s. He came to Port Hood in 1914 in response to an advertisement to run the Port Hood Greetings. After the Greetings folded in 1926 he established his own print shop and worked under the name The Only Printer Jones. His son, David Sydney, worked in the print shop. David Sydney moved from Port Hood to Montreal, QC in the 1930s. He married Mary Eleanor Thurber in 1942. He served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. Following the war he was a partner in Simpson Press. David Sydney Jones frequently visited Port Hood. He died April 5, 1997 and is buried in the Union Protestant Cemetery. |
| History of Use: | The donor was the grandson of David William Jones (1872-1949) who operated a print shop in Port Hood. He would sometimes make postcards out of photographs. The original photo this print is made from belonged to D.W. Jones. It passed on to his son and then to his grandson who made this copy for the Chestico Museum. |
