| Description: | Photograph of the print shop and house owned by David William Jones. The sign on the roof of the print shop reads: The Only Printer Jones. A white picket fence runs in front and there is a primitive pole just at the end of the shop. There is a car in the driveway. This is a copy of an original photo circa 1940s. |
| Narrative: | David William (D.W.) Jones (1872-1949) was born in Wales and emigrated to Canada with his family in the early 1900s. He came to Port Hood in 1914 in response to an advertisement to run the Port Hood Greetings. After the Greetings folded in 1926 he established his own print shop and worked under the name The Only Printer Jones. He assumed the name Only Jones from the fact that his family was the only Jones on the county electoral list at the time. In the County in Wales where he was born there thousands of Jones. The print shop was built by the Batherson brothers - Alex and Johnny. It was located across the road from the present Hillcrest Hall. The building was removed from the location pictured and relocated elsewhere in Port Hood after it was no longer occupied. |
| History of Use: | The donor was the grandson of David William Jones (1872-1949) who operated a print shop in Port Hood. He would sometimes make postcards out of photographs. The original photo this print is made from belonged to D.W. Jones. It passed on to his son and then to his grandson who made this copy for the Chestico Museum. |
