| Narrative: | Mary Margaret Gillis was born on May 15, 1892 in Hawthorne, Inverness County Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Rankin and Donald Gillis. She died on May 22, 1986 at the age of 94. On August 4, 1913 she married John Donald Johnny Old Donald MacMillan of Hawthorne in St. Peters Church Port Hood. Johnny was born November 6, 1883 and died October 10, 1945. They had ten children: Donald - June 3, 1914, Catherine February 3, 1916, Ella December 2, 1917, Cassie September 27, 1919, Anne November 23, 1920, Rita June 13, 1923, Irene May 15, 1925, Frances December 16, 1926, Angus September 15, 1930 and John July 10, 1932. They built a home in Hawthorne where they raised their ten children, farmed, raised cattle and their own sheep. |
