| Description : | Photograph of a group of 36 miners at the Henderson Mine. Some are sitting in cars on the slope. The rest are posed around the cars. They are wearing their helmets with the light. The entrance to the mine can be seen in the background. This is a copy of an original photo from 1937. Research on mining resulted in the following identifications for the photo: 1) Dan P. | Commentaires : | In 1933 a man by the name of Myron Emerson Chapin Henderson arrived who developed a mine in the Harbourview area. This provided work for many local men who had been hard hit by the Great Depression. However, financial and labour difficulties plagued its operation during these years. After several attempts by the miners themselves to operate the mine as a cooperative, it finally ceased operations in 1938. |
