The two top drawers have black, wooden knobs 9one mssing). The other six drawers have metal handles, open on the underside to accommodate four fingers. Every drawer has a lock in the centre. The key/keys is/are missing. |
Commentaires : | This teacher's desk is similar in many ways to one illustrated on the school plans, published in 1864, by Superintendent of Education, T.H. Rand, and drawn by W. R. Mulholland. The donor reports that the desk had been used by Provincial Normal College Principal Dr. J. P. McCarthy (1949 - 66) and that it dated back to Principal Dr. Soloan (1900 - 28). It is possible that it coulde have been used by the first principal of the Normal School, Rev. Dr. Alexander Forrester. |
