Commentaires : Opened November 14, 1855 in Truro, N.S., the Provincial Normal School trained high school graduates to become teachers. An accompanying model school for demonstration of teaching and student teaching opened in 1857. The original building was replaced in 1878 and a further addition, a science building, was added in 1900. In 1909, the institution was renamed the Provincial Normal College. In 1951 it became the Nova Scotia Normal College. The college moved to the Arthur Street Campus in 1961 and was renamed the Nova Scotia Teachers College. The College began a relationship with Mount Saint Vincent University in 1989 in which courses were taught on campus by both Nova Scotia Teachers College and Mount Saint Vincent faculty. The degree was a joint Nova Scotia Teachers College and Mount Saint Vincent University award. This continued until 1997 when the provincial government closed the College following a recommendation of teacher education in Nova Scotia. The campus is now the Nova Scotia Community College Truro Campus.
