Commentaires : | The portrait is of Anna Louise Chipman Lovett (b. 16 December 1795) who married Thomas Lovett. She was the daughter of William Allen Chipman (b.1757) who was a member of the legislature and a Judge of the Inferior Court. He strongly supported the Baptist community in Nova Scotia and helped with the founding of Horton Academy. He voted, unsuccessfully, against the motion which allowed the Roman Catholic Laurence Kavanagh to sit in the assembly without taking the oath against transubstantiation. William Chipman was also was a freemason who belonged to St Georges Lodge No.11. Ann and Thomas had five children. The eldest, Margaret Ann, married James Leavitt DeWolf of Windsor. |
